Biography: Kathleen Speranza

Kathleen SperanzaKathleen Speranza earned a BFA from Boston University (Magna Cum Laude) and an MFA from Yale University School of Art. As a full time instructor at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA, from 1987 to 2001, she served as department Chair for both the Painting and Foundation Departments.

Kathleen developed a volunteer teaching program at Essex County Correctional Institute in Middleton, MA. The program was designed to introduce Montserrat Seniors to classroom teaching while giving inmates the opportunity to express ideas and develop their creative potential.

She is currently teaching portrait painting workshops as well as painting and drawing at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Ms. Speranza has had numerous solo exhibitions and her work has been shown in several group exhibitions including the Danforth Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, The Lynn Historical Museum, and Harvard’s Museum of Natural History. Selected collections include Ralph Lauren Co., Meditech Corporation, Cell Signaling Technologies, Harvard Museum of Natural History and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Her work is also in numerous private collections throughout the country.

The artist lives and works in Lynn, Mass. with her husband Parker and her son Jackson.
